DisneyBound Look Book: Snow White

When I first got involved with DisneyBounding, it was Halloween 2012. I wanted to dress up as Snow White, but didn't want the full on fancy dress. I decided to take a stab at DisneyBounding, searching through my closet to see what I already had, and what I might need to purchase to finish the look. I was surprised with how well everything was pulled together, and to this day it's one of my favorite DisneyBounds I've ever put together.

I've done a couple varieties of this DisneyBound, wearing it at home for Halloween, Walt Disney World during my college program, and in Disneyland for a photoshoot with my lovely friend Courtney.

This DisneyBound is probably one of the most common outfits, but that's probably because it's rather simple. As long as you can put together an outfit that includes yellow, blue, and hints of red, you're set!

Here are the various pieces that I've included for the different versions of the Snow White DisneyBounds I've put together in the past!

Snow White DisneyBound:

  • Blue Shirt: I've actually owned this shirt for years in my drawer back home, but I just never wore it much until I started using this DisneyBound. Finding a solid blue shirt shouldn't be too hard, but I definitely recommend Forever 21 for solid colored clothes! I find plenty of my clothing pieces for DisneyBounding there.
  • Yellow Skirt: I purchased this skirt on CharlotteRuse.com nearly four years ago, so it doesn't look like they have the exact same skirt on their website anymore. However, any yellow skirt can work! I found a skater skirt at Forever 21 here as an affordable option!
  • Red Bow: My first couple times wearing this outfit included a red hairband bow from Claires!
  • Red Flower Crown: Third time I wore this DisneyBound included a red flower crown from my lovely friend Sidonie Smith. It's actually Incredibles themed (with small black flowers between the red ones), but I thought it looked great with my Snow White getup! You can find more creations from Sid and her husband on YourCosplayCloset!
  • Red Cape: Since the first time I wore this outfit was actually intended as a Halloween costume,  I borrowed a red cape from a friend of mine. You can wear a cape with your DisneyBound if you'd like, but I feel like it'd be a little less of a "bound", since DisneyBounding is supposed to be more everyday clothes you can wear anywhere. (Unless you love wearing capes, then by all means, go for it!)
  • Necklace: Jewelry can really finish a DisneyBound outfit. I didn't have any my first time, but the second and third time I used two different red heart necklaces. One was borrowed from a friend, and the other (on the left photo) was one my mom actually made herself. Other jewelry pieces such as apple necklaces or earrings would look great with this outfit!
  • Black Belt: Completely optional to use a belt, I just felt like adding it during the photoshoot to add a bit of a change to the look than my previous outfits. You can also use the belt as a way to add red or any other color within the character's scheme!
  • Black Flats: Shoe color is pretty optional here, but black flats were the easiest shoes I had in my closet at the time. Whichever you find works the best for you!

D23 Look: Baymax DisneyBound

My Baymax DisneyBound at D23!
For the first day of D23 Expo, I put together one of my all time favorite DisneyBounds. If you're not familiar with DisneyBounding, the concept is to put together clothes in a similar color scheme as some of your favorite Disney characters. It's a fun and creative way to dress similarly to these characters, but in a more modern and every day look that you can wear to the parks, school, or wherever you please!

I personally love DisneyBounding. My first ever look I put together was Snow White for Halloween a few years ago. I was immediately hooked.

Since then I've "bounded" as a handful of characters, such as Flynn Rider from Tangled and Megara from Hercules. One of my all time favorite outfits I pulled together was actually Baymax from one of my all time favorite movies: Big Hero 6.

I originally put together this DisneyBound for Wondercon back in April, but I loved it so much I thought it'd be perfect to revive it for D23. It's a very simple outfit, and rather easy to put together.

DisneyBounding at Wondercon!

Baymax Disneybound:
  • Earrings (Top Left): These were actually a birthday gift from a friend, but she found them on an adorable Etsy shop called The Little Surprises. She has more adorable handmade crafts and jewelry available on her website!
  • Baymax Bow (Bottom Left): This is one of my absolute favorite Disney bows. I found it on an etsy shop called Extra Sweet Bowtique! She has a fantastic amount of diverse Disney bows, some even non-Disney themed!
  • White Dress: I found this dress at Forever 21 earlier this year, just a few days before Wondercon. The fabric is actually perfect, which looks similar to the kind of "huggable" material that makes Baymax! I actually ran into the talented cosplayer, Cassie Wanda, who thought the dress could make a great Baymax before she even realized that was the character I was DisneyBounding!
  • Red Shoes: I wore red shoes for a couple of reasons. First, I already had these from a previous cosplay as Clara Oswald from Doctor Who on Galliday in Disneyland. Also, instead of finding new white shoes and risk them getting dirty, I thought the red feet could represent Baymax's charging station (as seen in the picture at the top). I found these Vans-like shoes at Ross!
  • Sunglasses: To put together a finishing Baymax touch, I was able to find some thick, round sunglasses from a thrift store called Buffalo Exchange. If you don't live in Southern California, it'd be really easy to find similar round/circular sunglasses from anywhere, especially Forever 21!
  • Baymax Purse/Bucket: Each time I've worn this DisneyBound, I've had a different kind of Baymax bag. The first time (pictured in the collage), I carried around a Baymax popcorn bucket from the Big Hero 6 pre-screening at the El Capitan. The bucket was filled with lollipops, which I gave out to anyone who wanted one! Right before D23, a friend of mine (Sasaki Time) found an adorable Baymax purse at a merchandise cart in the local mall! He immediately sent me a photo and I HAD to have it to use it at the expo (shown in the first picture). I love it so much!
That's everything I use for a Baymax inspired DisneyBound! My friend dressed up as Hiro and let me borrow an adorable stuffed Baymax to carry around with me during both Wondercon and D23.

Amazing Princess Rompers!

Some of you might remember a talented Youtube singer/theater performer that I featured a few times on this blog, Sidonie Smith. Well, after touring and performing in Europe last year, she and her husband have constructed their own cosplay/clothing company, Your Cosplay Closet!

Sid and her husband, Chris, started their own Etsy shop with creative Disney princess rompers, perfect for Disneybounding! Ever since their first romper (inspired by Tiana), they've created rompers ranging from princesses to heroines, and even villains! Here's a few of my personal favorites featured on their Etsy site:

Princess and the Frog Tiana
($75)

Model: Sidonie Smith (YCC Co-owner)

Snow White
($85)

Model: Amber Arden

Little Mermaid Ariel
($95)
Model: Traci Hines

Megara

All outfits are handmade, made to order, and ship worldwide. They even make kids sizes! They'll discuss any of your requests, and are also willing to make full on cosplays! They're currently creating a Peggy Carter cosplay for me for the D23 Expo this August. I'm so excited to see how it turns out!

Disneybounding in Disneyland! (Part One)

Something I've really grown to enjoy doing in the parks (or sometimes just any day for fun) is Disneybound. If you're not familiar with Disneybounding, it's when you create your outfit similar to something related to Disney. The most common Disneybounds are modeled after various characters, such as Mickey, Ariel, or Anna and Elsa. Sometimes you can even dress similarly to Disney attractions or resorts! (I've seen a Tower of Terror Disneybound that I'm dying to try!)

Since I started working in Disneyland and coming to the parks for fun on my days off, I've Disneybounded twice with different friends. The first time I took my roommates into the parks for fun for my roommate Diana's birthday. Each of us had a Disneybound for a different character that we pulled together the night before. I was actually really impressed with what we were able to create!

(From left to right) Erin was Mickey Mouse with her sweatshirt, Emily was the Genie from Aladdin, I was Flynn Rider, Diana was Killian Jones/Captain Hook from Once Upon a Time, and Imani was Briar Rose. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get an actual picture with Flynn because his line was way too long by the time we were done watching the Beauty and the Beast show in Fantasy Faire. We made do with what we could, and I found these posters of Flynn and even tried to smolder! (Keyword: tried)

My second Disneybound attempt in Disneyland was when my lovely friend Raisa came to visit. She was Bounding as Anastasia Tremaine from Cinderella, and I was finally able to dress up as my favorite character: Megara from Hercules!

I actually bought this dress last year for Dapper Day during my college program, but decided it wasn't necessarily "dapper" compared to some other dresses I found afterwards. It was rather difficult to re-create Meg's massive ponytail and curls on such a hot day, but I tried my best! (It looked better before this picture with Daisy.)

Raisa and Anastasia!
The Tremaines recognized Raisa's Disneybound immediately. I may have mentioned this before, but if you ever have the chance to meet these crazy sisters, do it! They're so entertaining to interact with and meet.

On this same day I actually was able to finally meet my wonderful friend Tera! She was visiting Disneyland for her first time with some of her friends, and they all decided to Disneybound as well! We had dinner at Ariel's Grotto, got to meet all the princesses, rode a few rides, visited Mad T, watched World of Color, and SPRINTED to Big Thunder with one of my coworkers to cast preview the attraction before it opened back up to the public! It was so much fun!

(From left) Meg, Mary Poppins, Minnie Mouse, and Ariel!

Disneybounding has definitely become one of my favorite things to do in the parks. It's so much fun dressing as some of your favorite Disney characters with clothes you just happen to find in your closet or casually come across at the mall. It's a super fun way to interact with characters if they recognize your outfit, as well as when other cast members notice you dressed as a certain character!

I felt like this was an appropriate post to share on Disney's official "Rock Your Disney Side" 24 hour event today. If you're braving the parks, make sure you stop by Monsters Inc, Mike & Sulley to the Rescue tonight to see me! I have a full on graveyard shift until 5:30 in the morning....wish me luck, and have fun everyone!

Disney Challenge Day 46: Disney Halloween Costume?

50 Day Disney Challenge
Day Forty-Six: Which Disney Character Have You Dressed Up as for Halloween?

When I was in 3rd grade, I dressed up as Jessie from Toy Story for Halloween! Unfortunately, I don't know where I can find a picture of me in that costume, but luckily I dressed up as another Disney character just this year! If anyone remembers, I dressed up as Snow White this year for Halloween, but as a DisneyBound style (something I made myself with everyday clothes).

What Disney characters have you dressed up as for Halloween?

Disney Halloween Ideas

I've been telling my followers on Tumblr that this year I'm going to be Snow White for Halloween, but I'm "Disneybound"-ing my costume.

What's Disneybound, you may ask? It's a lovely site made by the creative Leslie that gives you options and ideas to dress like any Disney character at an affordable price without buying the expensive fake looking costumes from the Halloween store.

I branched a little off of Disneybound because some of the outfits seemed a little too casual and possibly unrecognizable, and even pricey. Some followers were requesting my opinion and ideas for Disney inspired costumes, so I decided to take a stab at designing outfits myself!

I first made my own costume, and even included the exact skirt I ordered from Charlotte Ruse:

Eventually, people kept requesting more and more outfits, and I've started to have my own Disney Halloween costume collection!

You can see the entire collection on my Polyvore, here!

Do you have any requests? I might post some of my favorites on here as I make them! I'll also be sure to share photos of me and my friends on Halloween because we're all going to be Disney characters(:
